In the last days of October 2010, on our way back to Holland, after a 2.5 months’ holiday with our caravan, our car broke down and we were towed from the “péage” to the nearest Renault garage. There we found ourselves; without a place for the caravan at the garage. However, diagonally across from the garage there was a hotel, “Le moulin des gardelles” in Riom, where we were welcomed in the most friendly way, where we could park our caravan and booked room 9 except for one night which was already booked, in which night we slept in our caravan. After this weekend it was All Souls’ Day, and as the landlord and landlady were both celebrating their fiftieth birthdays, there would be a large family party. During All Soul’s day we were even invited to join the festivities, which was a great experience. As for the cuisine, in Holland it would certainly win a couple of Michelin Stars. We were struck by the fact that the hotel was fully booked all the time. It was very convenient for us that everybody was able to speak English.

Our unexpected delay had become very enjoyable, partly because of the beautiful surroundings which gave us the opportunity to take long walks, but first and foremost because of the hospitality of our hostess and host. So you can understand we would recommend anyone to spend a few nights at their place.
